Friday June 15, 2012 7pm

Secretary of State Building Auditorium
1500 11th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
Established in 1993, the Sacramento Maharlika Lions Club currently has more than 80 men and women members who volunteer their time to perform a variety of community and humanitarian service activities.
Lions Clubs International (LCI)
is the world’'s largest service club organization with 1.3 million members in more than 200 countries. LCI is a network of Individual clubs united in helping each other. Lions Clubs are recognized around the World for their services to the community and the visually impaired and physically challenged.
Maharlika Lions has a strong commitment to young people. We host and support LEO Clubs. We present youth scholarships through local organizations like the Outstanding Filipino Youth Awards. We sponsor Student Speakers and Peace Poster contests, and we sponsor and host international youth exchange students.
We make monetary contributions for cancer research, diabetes awareness, battered women shelters like
My Sister’s House
and the
Habitat for Humanity
. We provide eyeglasses for the needy and free professional glaucoma screenings. We volunteer thousands of hours to community involvement such as serving hot lunches at the
Loaves and Fishes
; gathering blankets and jackets for the homeless; participating in the state’s creek’s clean up program and more.
Lions club members enable clubs to meet diverse local and international needs. Individually and together with their clubs, Lions take on projects as varied as cleaning up the neighborhood park while they also combat international issues, develop relationships and fulfill their potential.
Outside of the Sacramento area, Maharlika Lions support farm workers that live in the most economically challenged areas of Yolo, Fresno and Salinas counties. Overseas, we hold surgical, medical and dental missions to help those without access to healthcare.

The lion has been an icon for humanity for thousands of years, appearing in cultures across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Despite incidents of attacks on humans, lions have enjoyed a positive depiction in culture as strong but noble. A common depiction is their representation as "king of the jungle" or "king of beasts"; hence, the lion has been a popular symbol of royalty and stateliness as well as a symbol of bravery.
